Getting Ready at Whistle Barns (The Sweetest First Look Moments)

One of my favorite parts of the morning happened before the ceremony had even begun. Ashleigh kept her dress a surprise, making the moment her daughter and son saw her ready for the day that little bit more special.

As a wedding photographer, I know how much these moments mean to a bride. The day moves so quickly, and it's often these quiet interactions with the people closest to you that end up becoming some of the most treasured memories.

The getting ready suite at Whistle Barns was also beautiful to photograph, with plenty of natural light and a large mirror that created the perfect setting for those final moments before heading to the ceremony.

Why Whistle Barns is Such a Beautiful Wedding Venue

Whistle Barns is one of those venues that has a little bit of everything. From the modern barn spaces to the surrounding countryside, there are so many beautiful spots for photos throughout the day without ever needing to leave the venue.

A few things I loved about photographing a wedding here:

  • Beautiful countryside views and greenery surrounding the venue

  • A lovely pond area that creates a gorgeous backdrop for portraits

  • Separate spaces for getting ready, the ceremony, reception, and evening celebrations

  • Plenty of natural light throughout the venue

  • A stunning indoor ceremony space that's just as beautiful as the outdoor areas

One of my favorite things about Whistle Barns is that every part of the day can happen in one place. It makes the experience so much more relaxed for couples and guests, while still giving plenty of variety in the final gallery.

The Emotional Surprise Before the Ceremony

Just before Ashleigh walked down the aisle, she had one more surprise for Jacob.

A voice note played through the speakers, but it wasn't from Ashleigh. It was their children, telling him to get ready because mommy was about to walk down the aisle.

The reaction in the room was instant. There wasn't a dry eye in sight, and it was such a personal way to begin the ceremony. It felt less like a wedding tradition and more like a reflection of who they are as a family.

It's moments like these that remind me why I love photographing weddings. Not just the big celebrations, but the thoughtful, meaningful moments that make a wedding completely unique to the couple.

A Beautiful Indoor Ceremony at Whistle Barns

The ceremony took place inside one of Whistle Barns' stunning indoor spaces. The room is bright, modern, and photographs beautifully, making it a perfect option for couples who want a gorgeous ceremony space regardless of the weather.

As beautiful as the room was, my focus kept coming back to Ashleigh and Jacob and the people surrounding them. It was one of those ceremonies where you could genuinely feel how loved and supported they are by everyone in the room.

Confetti, Speeches & That “Everyone Here Is Family” Feeling

After the ceremony, everyone headed outside to celebrate in the sunshine. With beautiful grounds, a fantastic group of family and friends, and some of the best confetti photos, it was the perfect start to the afternoon.

Then came the speeches, and they were brilliant. The kind that have everyone laughing one minute and reaching for a tissue the next. There was so much love, support, and personality in the room, and it was clear just how much Ashleigh and Jacob mean to the people around them.

Golden Hour Portraits on the Whistle Barns Grounds

After a full day of sunshine, Ashleigh and Jacob were treated to the most beautiful evening light. We snuck away for a few minutes during golden hour and wandered through the grounds of Whistle Barns while the sun dipped lower in the sky. Between the soft light, beautiful surroundings, and two people who were genuinely enjoying every second of their day, the photos felt effortless.

Some of my favorite portraits happen during these quiet moments away from the celebrations, and this was no exception.

If you're planning a wedding at Whistle Barns, I'd always recommend setting aside a little time for golden hour portraits. You won't regret it.

First Dance + An Absolutely Unreal Party (Saxophone Included)

The evening reception was next level. Ashleigh & Jacob’s guests were down for a party...shots, drinks, hands in the air, and zero holding back.

They had an epic band, and the saxophone player literally came out onto the dance floor to party with everyone, creating some of the most fun moments of the night. By the time the dance floor filled up, nobody was holding back. It was the perfect way to celebrate a day that had been equal parts emotional, elegant, and fun.

Champagne Tower, Sparklers & the Ultimate Send-Off

As if the day couldn’t get more iconic — the evening ended with a full champagne tower moment (the kind that instantly makes your wedding feel luxe), followed by sparklers outside to wrap things up in the most cinematic way.

And then… the boys finished the night with a cigar photo moment — just the lads, looking like they stepped out of a magazine. It was one of those fun, stylish little extras that made the gallery feel even more “Ashleigh & Jacob.”
